Congressman Mike Simpson 802 West Bannock, Room 600, Boise, Idaho 83702 208-334-1953 3/29/05 Dear: Congressman Mike Simpson,
I am a Viet Nam Veteran. I served in Vietnam in the US Army from August 19, 1966 through August 11, 1967. I was wounded during a mortar attack in CU Chi on April 9, or April 10, 1967. My Vet Center counselor (Terry Tippery) and Tom Titus, a Vet friend, told me to send a form DD-149 to the Department of the Army to request a Purple Heart for my leg injury. I sent the DD-149 on July 19, 2004 and have inquired two more times since then and have yet to hear from the Department of the Army on this matter. I have enclosed a copy of my last request, plus a copy of my medical report.
I have also been trying to retrieve copies of morning reports from Co D, 197th Support Battalion; Fort Benning, GA. For Sept 16th through the 19th, 1967 and I have had no luck here either.
Your office helped me obtain morning reports for August from the same Battalion about a year ago, now the VA says I need the morning reports for Sept. the same year. I have enclosed a copy of the last request for morning reports, that your office helped me obtain from Co D, 197th Support Battalion; Fort Benning, GA. from 1 Aug. 1967 through 25 Aug. 1967. Again, I Thank You.
Your help in these matters would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely, Hugh C. Rowland
